Magic City Weekend, Promo Guy
I tell stories…the stories people trust me to share so that others can learn from or connect with. Right now, I do this for the top-rated morning show in Birmingham, Ala., as a #newsie at WBRC Fox 6 News, "On Your Side." When I’m not out reporting, connecting, listening, learning and sharing the experiences that make us human, I'm the promo guy for #MagicCityWeekend. Now, for the background.
My rèsumè is varied, having been the weekend morning co-host for "Good Day Carolinas" at the Fox O&O (WJZY-TV) in Charlotte, N.C. and "The Morning Show" at WJXT in Jacksonville, Fla. After three years in corporate America, I decided to follow my true passion and return to broadcast news. It’s a dream that I began nurturing years ago, during my participation in the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund High School Journalism Workshop at Clark Atlanta University. My dedication to this intense training program led me to receive the “Best Story” award. It was an exciting honor and validation of my ever-expanding potential. I then pursued an array of internships at ABC (WBMA), Fox (WAGA), CONUS Communications/All News Channel, CBS (WCCO) and Hearst Entertainment. My duties ranged from researching and writing for entertainment and investigative news segments to coordinating interviews and satellite uplinks, as well as logging tapes. Those experiences laid the foundation for me to join the team of (then) Primedia’s Channel One. I started off answering phones and eventually began writing popular features such as “Celebrity Birthday Finder” and “Presidential Perks” for its Webby Award winning Web site. I also had the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam to research the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, grandnephew of artist Vincent van Gogh, in relation to the release of “Submission,” a controversial film about the treatment of women in the Muslim world.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Ala., I matriculated at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I'm a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and various philanthropic organizations.
